Your input is important to help ensure that the process we use reflects the air quality concerns of communities across Washington. All comments must be submitted by Friday, November 4, 2022.

A key part of Ecology’s charge under the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) is to ensure that overburdened communities highly impacted by poor air quality in Washington, are not left behind as we work to reduce carbon pollution. To deliver on this promise,  we are working to identify which communities are vulnerable to criteria air pollution, expand air quality monitoring in these areas, and later develop plans to reduce these air pollutants.

We would like public feedback on:       

  • Draft criteria to identify overburdened communities highly impacted by air quality  
  • Draft factors for boundaries     
  • Data sources

Background

In 2021, the Washington Legislature passed the Climate Commitment Act which establishes a comprehensive program to reduce carbon pollution and to achieve greenhouse gas limits set in state law.
