Air Quality Notice of Construction – Opportunity to request a public comment period

Oct. 14, 2020 - Oct. 29, 2020, 11:59 p.m.

This is a public notice of an air quality permit. Ecology will hold a public comment period if one is requested.

Echo Bay Minerals Company submitted an air quality Notice of Construction application for new equipment at their Kettle River Buckhorn Mine facility, located at 363 Fish Hatchery Road in Republic. Echo Bay proposes to install two new propane-fired backup generators. These units are small backup generators (less than 50 horsepower each) and will be limited to operating less than 100 hours each per year. Ecology plans to approve the application. We will hold a public comment period on a draft approval order ("air permit") only if a written request is received by Oct. 29, 2020.

Background

A notice of construction permit is required before installing a new source of air pollution or modifying an existing source of air pollution. This permit is sometimes called a "pre-construction permit" because a business must have one before starting construction or operating their business.

A notice of construction air permit limits the amount of air pollutants a business can emit.
