State Implementation Plan Revision: Wallula Maintenance Plan for Particulate Matter (PM10)

State implementation plan (SIP)

Aug. 13, 2019 - Sept. 29, 2019

Ecology is proposing to submit a revision of Washington’s air quality State Implementation Plan (SIP) to EPA. This proposed revision includes a second 10-year plan to control dust and keep the Wallula area meeting national air quality standards through 2025. In the 1980s, the Wallula area did not meet the national air quality standard for small particles (PM10), specifically dust. Main sources of dust in the Wallula area are agriculture, a compost facility at a pulp and paper mill, and a cattle feedlot.

Background

State Implementation Plan (SIP) is a master plan to keep the air clean.  it describes how Washington implements, maintains, and enforces national air quality standards.

The State Implementation Plan is an overarching guidance that outlines the process for reducing air pollution from sources including transportation, wood smoke, and industry.  The plans are tailored and implemented to meet regional air quality needs.
