Hanford Air Operating Permit

June 18, 2018 - July 20, 2018

The Washington State Department of Ecology is providing notification of a 30-day public comment period starting June 18 through July 20, 2018. This comment period is regarding a proposed a change to the Non-Radioactive Air Emissions Notice of Construction Approval Order DE16NWP-003 for the Effluent Management Facility (EMF). The EMF is located on the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington. For more information please see the Nuclear Waste Program public comment page. The Air Operating Permit (AOP) protects the people and air resources of Washington State through coordination of permitting and regulatory issues associated with the Federal Clean Air Act and the Washington Clean Air Act. Ecology is the lead agency for the Hanford AOP. Through an interagency agreement and a delegation, the Hanford AOP is enforced by three agencies.
  • Ecology regulates non-radioactive toxic and criteria air emissions.
  • Washington State Department of Health regulates radioactive air emissions.
  • Benton Clean Air Agency regulates asbestos and outdoor burning.
