BP Cherry Point Refinery

Water quality permit

Nov. 4, 2021 - Dec. 17, 2021, 11:59 p.m.

We invite you to comment on the draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System water quality permit reissuance and associated Agreed Order for the BP Cherry Point refinery in Blaine.

Review draft documents

Due to COVID-19, documents are available online. If you need a hard copy document sent to you, or want to make an appointment to review files in person at Ecology's offices, please contact Angelina Ward at 360-407-6916 or angelina.ward@ecy.wa.gov.

We regulate wastewater released from municipalities and industries using the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit. All wastewater must be treated before it goes into surface water to protect human health and aquatic life. This permit allows discharge of treated wastewater to the Strait of Georgia and Terrell Creek.

Learn more about water quality individual permits and how we regulate this facility.
