The State Solid and Hazardous Waste Plan

Sept. 2, 2021 - Sept. 30, 2021, 11:59 p.m.

Did you know your input could help direct our future work to reduce or eliminate most wastes and toxic substances and use the remaining wastes as resources? We are seeking comments on the most recent update to the State Solid and Hazardous Waste Plan.

We want to hear from you!

We invite you to comment on the second draft of the most recent update to the State Solid and Hazardous Waste Plan. You may provide feedback on the entire plan or just the areas you are most familiar with or interested in.

You can review a summary of comments received on the first draft and how they shaped this second draft in the first draft comment summary. We will review and address comments on the second draft in a similar fashion as the first draft, and use these comments to prepare the final plan update.

Background

The State Solid and Hazardous Waste Plan:

  • Summarizes state trends related to solid and hazardous waste.
  • Defines a long-term vision to reduce or eliminate most wastes and toxic substances and use the remaining wastes as resources.
  • Provides guidance and direction for interested partners.
  • Outlines broad goals and outcomes that would help move Washington towards the vision.
  • Defines specific actions we hope to take over the next five years to help achieve these goals.

Periodic updates to this plan are required by Chapters 70A.205.210 and 70A.300.310 Revised Code of Washington. The last update occurred in 2015. Since then, many things have changed about waste and toxic substances and their impacts to environmental and human health. This update addresses these realities as well as continuing the necessary but unfinished work from the 2015 plan. Learn more on the State Solid and Hazardous Waste plan webpage.
