Ecology proposes removing this site from the Hazardous Sites List because the site has been cleaned up. We invite your comment on the proposal.
Consolidated Freightways Seattle is located at 6050 E. Marginal Way South, Seattle. The site was constructed as a military barracks-type facility in 1943, and was converted into a construction-trucking business center in1956. The trucking business operated until early 2017. A land redevelopment project began at the site in June 2017. The project included building a three-floor industrial warehouse.
In 2015, Ecology conducted a Site Hazard Assessment and rated the site a '4' on a scale of 1 to 5, where '5' represents the lowest risk. This ranking estimates the potential threat to human health and the environment relative to other sites in Washington State. Contamination was primarily from leaking tanks. The site was cleaned up between 1988 and 2022. Concentrations of chemicals of concern in soil and groundwater no longer pose a threat to human health and the environment. The site was cleaned up under the Voluntary Cleanup Program. In this program, Ecology provides technical help and review to people cleaning up contamination.
Ecology has determined that the cleanup action at the site meets MTCA regulations and we propose removing the site from the Hazardous Sites List.
