The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) invites you to comment on our proposal to remove the Country Store site from the Hazardous Sites List (HSL). The HSL includes all contaminated sites that have had their hazard ranked relative to other known contaminated sites in Washington. Sites are ranked on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 presenting the highest risk. This site, located at the 4421 Prichard Road in Moses Lake, was ranked a 4 due to petroleum contamination in soil and groundwater.
In 1990, seven underground storage tanks and 700 cubic yards of petroleum-contaminated soil were excavated. The soil was treated to destroy contamination and placed back in the excavation. Groundwater quality was monitored from 1993 to 2009, when three of four wells were clean. In June 2019, the fourth well met cleanup standards. You may review our draft no further action letter, advising that cleanup is complete.
We will hold a public meeting about this proposal if 10 people request it. After the comment period, we will respond to all comments received in a public document. If we don't receive any information that causes us to change our proposal, we will finalize the letter and remove the site from the HSL.
