Ecology is providing the public an opportunity to review and comment on the Proposed Removal from the Hazardous Sites List for the Jackpot Food Mart 056 at 500 George Washington Way in Richland.
You are invited to:
Historically, the site operated as a bus depot and gasoline station. By the late 1950s, the bus depot was replaced with a Jackpot Food Mart convenience store. In 1990, the underground storage tanks, associated piping, and dispenser islands were removed and replaced. Soil sampling revealed gasoline contamination above state cleanup levels.
Cleanup actions and regular soil and groundwater sampling have demonstrated that the contamination is no longer present. Ecology has determined the site no longer poses a threat to human health or the environment. Ecology is recommending the removal of the site from the Hazardous Sites List.
A site may be removed from the Hazardous Sites List only if the site is cleaned up to the standards set in Washington's cleanup law, the Model Toxics Control Act.
Ecology will review comments received during the comment period and respond. Ecology will hold a public meeting if 10 or more people request one. If no significant changes are necessary, the site will be removed from the Hazardous Sites List.
