Ecology is proposing to remove the Walla Walla Farmers Co-op site from our Hazardous Sites List. Investigation, cleanup, and monitoring of pesticide contamination occurred from 1985 to 2017. Following four consecutive quarters of groundwater monitoring results meeting state standards, we believe that the site no longer poses a threat to human health or the environment.
The Hazardous Sites List is a statewide list of contaminated properties. Sites are ranked on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 presenting the highest risk. In 1990, Ecology ranked this site a 1 due to pesticide contamination in groundwater.
Ecology will review comments received during the comment period and decide whether any new information changes our decision to remove the site from the Hazardous Sites List.
We will hold a public meeting if 10 people request one.
