We invite you to review and comment on the final cleanup proposal for an aluminum-processing waste pile in the Spokane Valley.
Ecology is proposing that the responsible parties dispose stockpiled aluminum-processing byproducts and contaminated soil from the Aluminum Recycling Trentwood site at a permitted landfill and cap remaining contaminated soil.
The following draft documents are available for public review and comment:
- Cleanup Action Plan: Ecology's document in which we evaluate the cleanup options presented in the feasibility study and share our proposed plan.
- Enforcement Order: a legal document requiring Union Pacific Railroad, the site owner, to complete the cleanup. The parties could not reach an agreement during the agreed order negotiations, so we are issuing an enforcement order.
- Scope of Work and Schedule for completing the cleanup.
- Revised Feasibility Study: the 2012 version that was previously available for public comment was revised in 2021 to include a waste recycling cleanup option and make some other revisions that are explained in the executive summary.
