We are providing an opportunity to review and comment on Interim Action cleanup plans for the Interstate 82 Exit 33A Yakima City Landfill site.
The City of Yakima operated a landfill at the site from 1963 to 1970. In 1996, soil and garbage tested near groundwater revealed petroleum, diesel, and oil. In 1997, soil and groundwater testing revealed lead and chromium above state cleanup levels.
The city is working on plans for new roads in and around the area. The plans include roads running through the area of the old landfill, and removing waste from the old landfill. These waste removal activities are called an "Interim Action." After completing the Interim Action, further studies will continue to address the remaining contamination in soil and groundwater.
