Roosevelt Regional Landfill’s ash disposal permit application renewal

Ash monofill comment period

August 1, 2018 - September 1, 2018

We invite the public to comment on a permit renewal application for Roosevelt Regional Landfill’s ash monofill.

A 30-day comment period will run from Aug. 1 to Sept. 1.

When solid waste is incinerated, it becomes ash – which must be disposed of in an environmentally conscious manner. Roosevelt Regional Landfill’s ash monofill is a landfill that disposes only special incinerator ash.

Ecology regulates air quality, water quality, and other environmental concerns related to special incinerator ash disposal. Ash monofill operators must apply for a permit renewal every five years. The facility must follow monitoring, testing and analytical data collection requirements in state law. The landfill’s renewal application includes a hydrogeological assessment, an engineering report, an operation plan, a closure plan, and a post-closure plan.

You can get a copy of the application by calling the Washington State Department of Ecology at 509-575-2490. To review application documents on the ash monofill, visit the Department of Ecology Central Regional Office at 1250 W. Alder St., Union Gap, WA.
