Public Hearing on Chelan UAA draft rule

WAC 173-201A Water Quality Standards for Surface Waters of the State of Washington

May 11, 2021, 1:30 p.m., Online webinar

During the hearing we will explain the proposed changes to the water quality standards and answer any questions.

Immediately following the presentation about our proposed changes, we will provide the opportunity for formal oral testimony and comments on the draft rule. The event will conclude when public testimony is complete. Oral testimony will receive the same consideration as written comments.

Please see below for the the related evening hearing on May 13, 2021 if it works better for your schedule.

Location: online

This rulemaking would adopt amendments to chapter 173-201A WAC Water Quality Standards for Surface Waters of the State of Washington. We are considering a change to the aquatic life designated use of salmonid spawning, rearing, and migration on the Chelan River using a use attainability analysis (UAA). A UAA is an approved water quality tool in Washington’s surface water quality standards (WAC 173-201A-440) and is used for removing or revising a designated use for a water body only if that use is not existing or attainable.

Documents for review

We write rules to implement and enforce state and federal environmental laws and rules.  Ecology follows a 3-phase process for rulemaking:

  1. Announcement and development
  2. Proposal
  3. Adoption

For each phase of the process, we update the rulemaking web page and notify interested parties. We also file notice in the Washington State Register. To learn more about Ecology’s rulemaking process, read the Frequently Asked Questions.
