Birch Bay Water and Sewer District

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit

June 10, 2020 - July 24, 2020, 11:59 p.m.

We invite you to comment on draft permit no. WA0029556

We proposed to reissue the Birch Bay Water and Sewer District permit. It authorizes the discharge of domestic wastewater into the Strait of Georgia, part of the Salish Sea. It also includes new nutrient control requirements.

You may view the draft documents at Birch Bay STP or visit the Water Quality Permitting and Reporting Information System (PARIS) website.

We regulate wastewater released from municipalities and industries using the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit. This permit regulates wastewater that goes directly into lakes, rivers, Puget Sound, or the ocean (surface water). All wastewater must be treated before it goes into surface water to protect human health and aquatic life.
