May 24, 2023 - June 23, 2023, 11:59 p.m.

Announcement of Availability of Draft Permit Modification

We invite your comments on draft modified permit WA0991005 for Echo Bay Minerals Company for the Kettle River Operations, Key Pits mine in Ferry County. The modification will change groundwater monitoring limitations for sulfate and TDS to bio-treatment system effluent concentration from the facility's approved engineering report. The permit authorizes treated effluent to flow into four subsurface infiltration beds located upgradient and adjacent to an unnamed tributary to the North Fork of the Sanpoil River.

We regulate wastewater released from municipalities and industries using the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit. This permit regulates wastewater that goes directly into lakes, rivers, Puget Sound, or the ocean (surface water). All wastewater must be treated before it goes into surface water to protect human health and aquatic life.
