Specialty Minerals, Camas

We regulate the water and hazardous waste activities at the Specialty Minerals chemical plant in Camas. We will do the same for any cleanup that may need to take place when it closes.

Facility information

  • This facility plans to shutdown in 2018. It currently makes precipitated calcium carbonate by reacting carbon dioxide from the Georgia Pacific, Camas pulp and paper mill with calcium hydroxide.
  • Wastewater from the process is sent to Georgia Pacific for treatment. The mill then sends it to the Columbia River.
