Brier SMP: Periodic Review

We are seeking public comment on the city of Brier’s proposed determination of adequacy as a result of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) periodic review. The public comment period will run from Aug. 3 through Sept. 1, 2020, at 5 p.m.

In 2012, Brier completed a comprehensive update to their SMP. The proposed Finding of Adequacy is needed to comply with the statutory deadline for a periodic review of the Brier SMP pursuant to RCW 90.58.080(4). The city has reviewed their SMP and has adopted by resolution a Finding of Adequacy declaring that their SMP remains consistent with the SMA and relevant sections of the Washington Administration Code.

Brier has opted to use the standard review process for this SMP periodic review, pursuant to WAC 173-26-100. Brier locally adopted Resolution No. 575 on March 12, 2019, and submitted it to Ecology on June 21, 2019.

Following this comment period, we will compare Brier’s proposed finding of adequacy to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines periodic review requirements of WAC 173-26-090. Based on the comparison, we will decide whether to:

  • Take final action concurring with the city’s Finding of Adequacy; or
  • Send the SMP back to the city of Brier with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
