Town of Darrington SMP: Periodic review

We are seeking public comment on the Town of Darrington's proposed amendment to its Shoreline Master Program (SMP), which regulates use and development within and adjacent to the Sauk River within the town limits. The public comment period will run from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, 2019, at 5 p.m.

The Shoreline Management Act requires that Darrington review, and if necessary, make changes to its SMP every eight years, to ensure consistency with changes in applicable state laws, rules, and updates guidance as well as any changes in local circumstances, regulations, and comprehensive plans since the last SMP update in 2007.

We will compare Darrington's proposed SMP to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison we will decide whether to:

  • Approve the program as is.
  • Approve with recommended changes.
  • Send the proposed program back to the town with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
