Hunts Point SMP: Periodic Review

We are seeking public comment on the Town of Hunts Point's proposed determination of adequacy as a result of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) periodic review. The public comment period will run from Jan. 21, to Feb. 21, 2020, at 5 p.m.

In 2015, Hunts Point completed a comprehensive update to their SMP. This proposed Findings of Adequacy is needed to comply with the statutory deadline for a periodic review of their SMP pursuant to RCW 90.58.080(4). The town has reviewed their SMP and has adopted, by resolution, a Findings of Adequacy declaring that their SMP remains consistent with SMA and relevant sections of the Washington Administration Code.

The town has opted to use the standard review process for this SMP periodic review, pursuant to WAC 173-26-100. The town locally adopted Resolution No. 19-259 on July 9, 2019, and submitted it to us on Nov. 26, 2019.

Following this comment period, we will compare the proposed Findings of Adequacy to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act, Shoreline Master Program Guidelines, and the periodic review requirements of WAC 173-26-090. Based on the comparison, we will decide whether to:

  • Take final action concurring with the town's Findings of Adequacy; or
  • Send the SMP back to the town with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
