Public comment requested - Dec. 20, 2021 to Jan. 21, 2022
We are seeking public comment on the City of Kelso's (city) proposed periodic review amendment to its shoreline master program (SMP).
The city’s amendment proposes changes to the existing SMP to ensure it is current with changes in state law, changes in other city plans and regulations, and other changed circumstances. The proposed changes update the monetary threshold for substantial development and freshwater docks, incorporates updates to the city’s critical areas ordinance consistent with our 2014 Wetland Rating System and incorporates the 2018 Ecology guidance for wetland buffers into the city’s Shoreline Critical Areas Regulations.
We will compare the city of Kelso's proposed program to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison we will decide whether to:
- Approve the program as is.
- Approve with recommended changes.
- Send the proposed program back to the city with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
