On June 20, 2018, we approved the City of Bingen’s comprehensive update to its Shoreline Master Program (SMP). The city's SMP effective date is July 4, 2018.
Mail and email were used to notify interested parties about the public comment period. Two comment letters were received — one from the Yakama Nation and one from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. We provided Bingen an opportunity to respond to the comments. After reviewing the comments received and the city’s responses, we are approving the SMP as submitted.
The City of Bingen's proposed comprehensive SMP update is needed to comply with the statutory deadline under the state Shoreline Management Act. This amendment is also needed for compliance with the planning and procedural requirements of the state SMP Guidelines.
This comprehensive SMP update will entirely replace the city’s existing SMP. The updated SMP will regulate development along the city’s shoreline which encompasses land within 200 feet of the ordinary high water mark of the Columbia River and all associated wetlands. The proposed SMP contains locally-tailored shoreline management policies, regulations, environmental designations, and administrative provisions that have all been updated.
