Bingen Shoreline Master Program

Public comment requested October 25 through November 27, 2017 at 5 p.m.

We are seeking public comment on the City of Bingen’s proposed update to its Shoreline Master Program.

Bingen has prepared a comprehensive Shoreline Master Program (SMP) that reflects the local vision for appropriate shoreline development, public shoreline access, and environmental protection as required by the Shoreline Management Act. Bingen’s SMP covers shorelines adjacent to the Columbia River, which is comprised of privately-owned land historically used for water-oriented industrial purposes. This SMP includes goals, policies, regulations, shoreline environment designations, administrative procedures, and definitions. This SMP increases protection and restoration of habitat and water quality, provides more certainty for development, and improves public access and recreational opportunities.

We will compare Bingen's proposed program to the requirements of the state Shoreline Management Act and our Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, we will decide whether to:

  • Approve the program as is.
  • Approve the program with recommended changes.
  • Send the proposed program back to the City of Bingen with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
