Riverside Shoreline Master Program

Public comment Sept. 21 through Oct. 23, 2017, at 5 p.m.

We are seeking public comment on the town of Riverside’s proposed update to its Shoreline Master Program.

Riverside has prepared a comprehensive Shoreline Master Program (SMP) that reflects the local vision for appropriate shoreline development, public shoreline access, and environmental protection as required by the state Shoreline Management Act. This will be the first SMP prepared by Riverside. In the past, the town regulated shoreline development under Okanogan County's regional SMP. The Okanogan River and its associated wetlands make up Riverside's regulated shorelines. This SMP includes goals, policies, regulations, shoreline environment designations, administrative procedures, and definitions. The shoreline program increases protection and restoration of habitat and water quality, provides more certainty for development, and improves public access and recreational opportunities.

We will compare Riverside's proposed program to the requirements of the state Shoreline Management Act and our Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, we will decide whether to:

  • Approve the program as is.
  • Approve the program with recommended changes.
  • Send the proposed program back to Riverside with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
