White Salmon Shoreline Master Program

On December 12, 2017, we approved the city of White Salmon's comprehensive Shoreline Master Program (SMP) update. The effective date is December 26, 2017.

Mail and email were used to notify interested parties about the comment period. Four comment letters were received as well as many comments from the Yakama Nation. We provided the city an opportunity to respond. After reviewing the comments and the city’s responses, we recommended many changes to the SMP. These public comments and responses have been incorporated into Attachment A: Findings and Conclusions, and Attachment B: Recommended Changes (below). White Salmon accepted all these recommended changes.

The proposed amendment is needed to comply with the statutory deadline for a comprehensive update of White Salmon's local Shoreline Master Program and compliance with planning and procedural requirements of the state's SMP Guidelines.

This comprehensive SMP update will entirely replace White Salmon's existing SMP. The updated SMP will regulate development along the city’s shoreline which encompasses land within 200 feet of the ordinary high water mark of the Colombia River and all associated wetlands. The proposed SMP contains locally-tailored shoreline management policies, regulations, environmental designations, and administrative provisions that have all been updated.
