241-S Tank Farm Exhausters

We are holding a 30-day public comment period on draft Approval Order DE26NWP-001, which would authorize use of three new portable exhausters in the 241-S Single Shell Tank (SST) Farm.

The U.S. Department of Energy (Energy) has proposed to construct three new portable exhausters for use during retrieval of waste and other tank management activities in the 241-S SST Farm. Draft Approval Order DE26NWP-001 would authorize operation of each exhauster at up to 3,000 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm), with a combined ventilation rate limit of 7,500 scfm.

A set of existing portable exhausters was authorized for use in many of the SST farms, including 241-S, under DE05NWP-002, Revision 3. Ecology is proposing to rescind the authorization for the existing exhausters in 241-S at the same time DE26NWP-001 is issued under a separate permitting action to issue DE05NWP-002, Revision 4. A public comment period has been opened simultaneously on the draft DE05NWP-002, Revision 4, which will continue to cover the other SST farms.
