We will be holding a weekly online "Lunch & Learn" series from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays beginning July 22, 2026. These virtual talks will focus on specific facilities or units in the Hanford Sitewide Permit. There will be a short presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
The dates and topics are:
July 22 – How is the permit structured? A walkthrough of the Hanford Sitewide Permit.
July 29 – Ponds, ditches, and trenches, oh my! Covering some of the many disposal sites including the Integrated Disposal Facility, nonradioactive dangerous waste landfill, and the Low Level Burial Grounds.
August 5 – Transforming waste into glass. Talking about Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant and Low-Activity Waste Pretreatment System.
August 12 – What about the effluents? Learn about the Liquid Effluent Retention Facility, Effluent Treatment Facility, and 242-A Evaporator.
August 19 – Solid Waste Operation Complex. Find out more about Outdoor Storage areas A and B, Central Waste Complex, and T Plant.
August 26 – Processing and research buildings, Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant and the 324 building. Learn about what these buildings did and how they are regulated.
September 2 – Tanks, a lot! Discussion on single-shell and double-shell tanks.
September 9 – Waste Encapsulation Storage Facility and Capsule Interim Storage. Talking about the transfer and storage of cesium and strontium capsules.
The Hanford Site currently operates under the Hanford Sitewide Permit Revision 8C. This current Permit is made up of 22 facilties and waste sites, also known as unit groups. The permit also includes standard permit conditions and attachments.
On June 29, 2026, a 120-day public comment period will open for Revision 9A and continue to Oct. 27, 2026. We encourage the public to review and submit comments.
