Proposed milestones and approach towards final cleanup

Tri-Party Agreement agencies address cleanup at the Hanford Site

Dec. 10, 2025, 3:36 p.m. - Feb. 8, 2026, 11:59 p.m. PT

The Tri-Party Agreement (TPA) agencies are holding a 60-day public comment period on proposed new TPA milestones that collectively address the cleanup of the Hanford Site.

The TPA agencies — U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Washington State Department of Ecology — are holding a public comment period on proposed new TPA milestones that collectively address the cleanup of soil, groundwater and legacy facilities at the Hanford Site.

The proposed new milestones will be implemented using an adaptive approach. The adaptive approach includes regularly evaluating and prioritizing site activities, which improves communication and allows for a more nimble, efficient and effective cleanup process.
