Food Center Grants Rulemaking
173-316 WAC – Food Center Grants
March 31, 2026, 10:30 a.m. PT, Online webinar
Join us for an online webinar for an environmental justice listening session on March 31, 2026 for 173-316 WAC Food Center Grants rulemaking.
The Department of Ecology is starting the rulemaking process for a new rule, Chapter 173-316 WAC Food Center Grant Programs, to establish and implement new grant programs under the Washington Center for Sustainable Food Management. This rule will establish participant and project eligibility, additional grant eligibility, and reporting criteria. The rule will also establish criteria to help ensure applicants and projects reduce emissions from landfills and waste-to-energy facilities through the diversion of organic materials and food waste prevention, rescue, and recovery.
We are exploring options through rulemaking to ensure that programs and investments benefit overburdened and food-insecure communities and strengthen local food systems.
The session will begin with a brief overview of the proposed rule, followed by a listening period. The majority of the time will be dedicated to hearing concerns, experiences, and recommendations from community members representing overburdened and socially vulnerable populations.
