Proposed battery stewardship plan

We invite you to comment on a proposed battery stewardship plan, which Ecology received from The Battery Network on July 1, 2026.

In 2023, the Washington Legislature passed a law creating a free recycling program for batteries. Battery producers must join and fund a battery stewardship organization, which will develop and implement an Ecology-approved stewardship plan. The plan must identify the collection network and how it will work, as well as other requirements in the regulations.

The Battery Network’s proposed plan is now available for public review and comment, through Aug. 24, 2026. Ecology must determine if the proposed plan meets the requirements of chapter 70A.555 RCW and chapter 173-905 WAC. Your input is important as Ecology reviews The Battery Network’s proposed plan for approval or disapproval.
