You are invited to review and comment on an Interim Action Work Plan and State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Determination of Nonsignificance.
We are planning an interim action (early partial cleanup) at the Eastside Fire & Rescue Headquarters property, which is part of the Eastside Fire & Rescue Headquarters and Issaquah Valley Elementary School (EFR HQ IVES) cleanup site in Issaquah. Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were released to the soil and groundwater from firefighting foam, formerly used during lawful training activities. These contaminants are present at levels that exceed state standards.
The following documents for a cleanup at the property are available for review and comment:
- Interim Action Work Plan: Describes the planned cleanup work of contaminated soil and groundwater associated with the Eastside Fire & Rescue Headquarters property.
- State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) – Determination of Non-Significance: Ecology’s determination that the cleanup work is not likely to harm the environment.
Soil and groundwater contaminated with PFAS have impacted two drinking water systems, the City of Issaquah and the Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District. Both continue to meet safe drinking water levels.
To learn more about this cleanup, join our in-person and online open house on Wednesday, November 5.
