Walking Tour

Georgia-Pacific West cleanup site

June 10, 2026, 3:30 p.m. PT, Bellingham

Join us for a walking tour of the Georgia-Pacific West site, in downtown Bellingham along the waterfront. The tour is hosted by RE Sources, a local nonprofit organization. Staff from Ecology and the Port of Bellingham will be available to answer questions.

  • Please prepare for a 1-mile unpaved loop.
  • Register for the walking tour

If you are unable to make it, please stop by our open house from 5 to 7 p.m. at the same location.

Background

This walking tour takes place during a comment period for documents about this cleanup. Operations from a pulp and tissue mill caused soil and groundwater contamination. Much of the site has been cleaned up, and the rest of the chlor-alkali area will be cleaned up next. The cleanup action plan includes treating, removing, and capping contaminated soil; treating and monitoring groundwater; and restricting future activities in certain areas.
