Georgia-Pacific West cleanup site, Bellingham
June 10, 2026, 5 p.m. PT, Bellingham
Stop by to talk with us and learn about this site on the Bellingham waterfront. Staff from Ecology and the Port of Bellingham will be available to answer questions. While no formal presentation is planned, handouts and visuals will be available.
Also consider joining us for a walking tour from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the same location.
Background
This walking tour takes place during the comment period on documents for the cleanup of the site. Operations from a pulp and tissue mill caused soil and groundwater contamination. Much of the site has been cleaned up, and the remainder of the chlor-alkali area will be cleaned up next. The cleanup action plan includes treating, removing, and capping contaminated soil; treating and monitoring groundwater; and restricting future activities in certain areas.
