Cleanup work is moving forward at the Glacier Northwest, Inc. cleanup site along the banks of the Lower Duwamish Waterway along W Marginal Way SW and north of the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 115.
We, along with the potentially liable party for the cleanup, Glacier Northwest, Inc., have prepared a remedial investigation report. This report is the result of environmental studies to find out what contamination is present at the site and where it has spread to.
Between 1913 and 1922, the upland portion of the site was filled with material from the initial dredging and straightening of the Lower Duwamish Waterway. From the 1930s until today, a variety of industrial operations occured on the site ranging from wood treatment to cement distribution. The remedial investigation found contamination in the soil, groundwater, and sediments next to the site.
