Aug. 16, 2024, 12 a.m. - Sept. 16, 2024, 11:59 p.m.
We invite your comments on a legal agreement and public participation plan for this cleanup site.
Agreed Order DE 21913 is a legal agreement between Ecology and Green Cove Park LLC, the potentially liable party. Green Cove Park is responsible for cleaning up the contamination. The agreed order requires Green Cove Park to:
-
Investigate the site according to the outline in the Data Gap Report and Remedial Investigation Work Plan
-
Document the results in a remedial investigation report
-
Complete a Feasibility Study comparing cleanup options
-
Prepare a preliminatry Draft Cleanup Action Plan
The Public Participation Plan describes how we inform the community about cleanup at the site.
Background
The Sundberg Gravel Pit cleanup site is on Cooper Point Road NW in Olympia. From at least 1960 through the 1990s, the site was used as a log storage yard and gravel pit. It is now vacant, undeveloped land covered by shrubs and trees.
Preliminary investigations identified petroleum and carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil. Petroleum and metals were found in goundwater.
Digital documents are available on our Sundberg Gravel Pit cleanup webpage. Printed documents are available at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library, 313 8th Ave SE, Olympia, and by appointment at our Ecology Lacey office at 300 Desmond Drive SE.
