National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit
Nov. 7, 2025, 12 a.m. - Jan. 30, 2026, 11:59 p.m. PT
Ecology invites your comments the draft NPDES permit (no. WA0031836) being reissued to the Washington State Fire Training Academy.
The comment period has been extended to Jan. 30, 2025
The proposed permit authorizes the continued discharge of treated wastewater from firefighting exercises to an unnamed creek tributary to the South Fork Snoqualmie River and to groundwater by means of infiltration through stormwater ponds.
You may view the industrial wastewater permit related documents at WA State Fire Training Academy or visit the Water Quality Permitting and Reporting Information System (PARIS) website.
Please note that we are also proposing to reissue a reclaimed water permit for the Fire Training Academy. We will be holding a public hearing to present more information about both permits, answer questions, and receive spoken testimony.
Background
We regulate municipal and industrial wastewater discharges to surface water using the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permits. These permits have conditions that must be met before wastewater goes into lakes, rivers, Puget Sound, or the ocean (surface water). These conditions help protect both human health and the environment. Learn more about water quality individual permits.
