Washington State Fire Training Academy
Reclaimed water permit
Dec. 12, 2025, 12 a.m. - Jan. 30, 2026, 11:59 p.m. PT
We invite your comments on the draft State Reclaimed Water Permit being reissued to the Washington State Fire Training Academy.
The proposed permit (no. ST0045506) authorizes the continued treatment of domestic sewage to produce Class A reclaimed water for use in firefighting training exercises on the academy campus.
At the same time, we also are holding a comment period on the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) determination of non-significance for the State Reclaimed Water Permit. This document has been formally noticed on the SEPA register.
You may view all reclaimed water permit related documents at WA State Fire Training Academy in the Water Quality Permitting and Reporting Information System (PARIS).
Please note, we are also proposing to reissue a draft industrial wastewater discharge permit (NPDES) for the Fire Training Academy. We will be holding a public hearing to present more information about both permits, answer questions, and receive spoken testimony.
Reclaimed — or recycled — water starts out as domestic wastewater (sewage), and is then treated and tested to make sure it is safe to use for specific beneficial uses. The Department of Health and Ecology issue Reclaimed Water Permits under Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 90.46 and associated regulations. Visit our Reclaimed Water webpage for more information.
