- Heads up: It’s time to toss restricted products – deadline Dec. 31, 2025
- Friendly reminder: Chemical restrictions + what it means for you
Draft Message – Short
Hi everyone,
Just a quick heads-up: Washington’s cosmetics law restricting nine harmful chemicals and chemical classes took effect Jan. 1, 2025. The sell-through period for older stock ends Dec. 31, 2025. That means any products bought before this year must be used up or disposed of by Dec. 31, 2025.
Check with your suppliers to make sure what you’re using now is compliant and ask for documentation if possible. For questions, you can reach out to Ecology at ToxicFreeCosmetics@ecy.wa.gov.
Let’s keep each other informed and our clients safe.

Draft Message – Long
Hi team/partners/salon,
I want to make sure everyone’s aware of Washington’s new cosmetics law that restricts nine harmful chemicals and chemical classes. The rule went into effect January 1, 2025, and the one-year sell-through period for products we already had in stock ends December 31, 2025.
That means any older products we purchased before this year either need to be used up by the end of December or safely disposed of.
Here are a few things we should all keep in mind:
- Use or dispose of old stock: Make sure older products are gone by the end of the year. ([link to salon video, disposal guide])
- Double-check our product lines: Ask suppliers if products still contain any of the restricted chemicals. If they do, look into alternatives.
- Get it in writing: If possible, request a compliance statement from our distributors or manufacturers.
- Ask questions if you’re unsure: We can always reach out directly to Ecology at ToxicFreeCosmetics@ecy.wa.gov.
We’re all making these adjustments together, and sharing this info helps keep our clients safe and our businesses in compliance.
Thanks for your part in keeping our work and community healthier!
