You are invited to review and comment on the plan to investigate contamination at this site.
The draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan (RIWP) describes how petroleum contamination in soil and groundwater will be investigated at the DeBocks Main Street Texaco. The goal of the remedial investigation is to fully delineate all the contamination related to the past business operations on these properties.
Site history
For many years, these properties operated as gas stations and service centers. Over the years, leaks and spills of gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products occurred at this site. These substances seeped into the soil and groundwater, leading to pollution that needs to be cleaned up to keep the community and environment safe.
Contamination was first discovered during the removal of underground storage tanks in 1995. Since then, environmental samples have shown petroleum contamination in soil and groundwater throughout the site. Contamination from three separate properties is combining to create the current polluted site. Initial efforts have been made to excavate polluted soil and to remove liquid petroleum products from the groundwater. Additionally, a network of wells across the site are being used to monitor groundwater contamination.
Next steps
Ecology will consider all comments received during this public comment period, which may cause changes to the draft document. If we change the document significantly, we will hold another public comment period. We will hold a public meeting if 10 or more people request it. If no significant changes are made, the RIWP will become final.
