Nov. 7, 2025, 12 a.m. - Dec. 8, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PT

We invite your comments on the reissuance of NPDES permit no. WA0031836.

The Department of Ecology invites your comments the draft permit being reissued to the Washington State Fire Training Academy. The proposed permit authorizes the discharge of treated wastewater from firefighting exercises to an unnamed creek tributary to the South Fork Snoqualmie River and stormwater to groundwater by means of infiltration through stormwater ponds.

You may view the draft permit, fact sheet and related documents at WA State Fire Training Academy or visit the Water Quality Permitting and Reporting Information System (PARIS) website.

Background

We regulate wastewater released from municipalities and industries using the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Wastewater Discharge Permit. This permit regulates wastewater that goes directly into lakes, rivers, Puget Sound, or the ocean (surface water). All wastewater must be treated before it goes into surface water to protect human health and aquatic life.
