Comments sought on Cle Elum’s shoreline plan

CLE ELUM  –   A program to manage the shorelines along the Cle Elum and Yakima rivers within the city of Cle Elum is open for comment through the Washington Department of Ecology.

The update to Cle Elum’s shoreline management plan was adopted by the city last June and is part of a regional effort led by Kittitas County, also including Ellensburg, and South Cle Elum. Once approved by Ecology, the city’s shoreline program will become part of the overall state shoreline master program.

The locally tailored shoreline program is designed to help minimize environmental damage to shoreline areas, reserve appropriate areas for water-oriented uses and protect people’s access to public land and waters.

Comments will be accepted through Feb. 29, 2016, and should be addressed to:

Zach Meyer, Department of Ecology, Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program, 1250 West Alder St., Union Gap, WA 98903 or by email to zmey461@ecy.wa.gov.

Review documents at:

  • Ecology’s Central Regional Office, 1250 West Alder Street, Union Gap
  • Ecology's website
  • Cle Elum City Hall, 119 West First Street, Cle Elum.

After taking public comments into consideration, Ecology may approve Cle Elum’s proposed shoreline program as written, reject it, or identify specific modifications to meet the Shoreline Management Act and applicable state regulations.
