Municipal stormwater permit audit program

Our purpose

In late 2015 we began a pilot municipal stormwater permit audit program for the Phase II permits. Our goal is to evaluate permittee compliance and assess the clarity and effectiveness of our permit language and requirements. Audits help us improve the program and future permit language.

Why are we running the pilot audit program?

Under this effort, we are focusing on specific aspects of stormwater management programs. This allows us to assess our permits and how they are being implemented.

This helps us:

  • Improve our knowledge of local operations, priorities, constraints, and challenges.
  • Clarify permit requirements and implementation expectations for permittees.
  • Assess compliance with the permit.
  • Determine if improvements are needed to more effectively implement permit requirements.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of the permits to inform modifications for the 2018/2019 reissuance of the permit.
  • Document positive elements of programs that may benefit other permittees.
