Air Operating Permit

We propose to approve SGL Carbon Fibers' air quality air operating permit (AOP).

SGL Carbon Fibers America applied for an air operating permit for their composites facility located at 8781 Randolph Road NE, in Moses Lake. SGL Composites produces polycarbonate fiber. Production starts by loading boxes of polyacrylonitrile filaments onto the process lines. These filaments then pass through a series of ovens that gradually get hotter, followed by furnaces that burn off impurities from the material. The carbonization process tightens the fibers. After that, the finished product is wound onto spools, then packaged and shipped.

We determined this proposal satisfies the requirements of Chapter 173-400 WAC and Chapter 173‑401 WAC. We plan to approve the air operating permit.

Background

Commercial and industrial businesses that emit large amounts of air pollution are required to get an air operating permit. An air operating permit is a master document that lists all of the air pollution requirements that apply to a business or industry. We issue these permits along with other clean air agencies in Washington.

Proponemos aprobar la solicitud Permiso de funcionamiento del aire de calidad del aire (AOP) de SGL Carbon Fibers.

Estamos preparando un borrador inicial de permiso de operación de calidad del aire para SGL Composites. SGL Composites, ubicado en 8781 Randolph Road NE, en Moses Lake, produce fibra de policarbonato.
