6PPD Listening Session

Provide input on an upcoming 6PPD report to the Legislature

Jan. 23, 2025, 9:30 a.m. PT, Online only

We invite you to give input and ask questions about an upcoming 6PPD report about the life cycle of used tires that our consultant Eastern Research Group is preparing for the Legislature.

Event info

To better understand the pathways of how 6PPD enters the natural environment, Eastern Research Group, a consultant we are collaborating with, is researching and writing a report that explores the life cycle of used tires for the Washington State Legislature.

This listening session is an opportunity for Tribes, interested parties, and the public to give input on this report and ask questions.

How to join

This event is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. via Zoom.

Background

6PPD is a chemical that prevents automotive tires from degrading (i.e., breaking down) and helps them last longer. When 6PPD is exposed to air, it reacts with ozone to create 6PPD-quinone (also known as 6PPDQ). 6PPDQ is lethal to coho salmon and can contaminate water systems.
