Background
Safer Products for Washington establishes a process where we designate priority chemicals, identify products that contain those chemicals, determine needed regulatory actions, and adopt rules to implement regulatory actions. Before we can restrict the use of a chemical in an identified consumer product, the law requires that safer alternatives are feasible and available.
In May 2024, we published our cycle 2 phase 1 final priority chemicals report (and comment summary). We are now working on cycle 2, phase 2 to identify priority products containing those chemicals.
