Comment on cleanup documents

Nov. 18, 2024, 12 a.m. - Jan. 16, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PT

We invite you to comment on a legal agreement and public participation plan.

The Delta Marine Industries cleanup site covers four property parcels near Seattle's South Park neighborhood and the Lower Duwamish Waterway.

The following documents are available for review on our cleanup page:

  • Agreed Order: This agreement between Ecology and property owners 1608 S 96th St. LLC and Desimone Trusts requires the property owners to study contamination at the site, compare cleanup options, and write a draft cleanup plan.
  • Public Participation Plan: This plan describes how Ecology will inform the community about cleanup and ways to become involved.

The property was used for a variety of industries, and some of it may have been leveled using fill from the polluted Lower Duwamish Waterway. Investigations found the following contamination above state cleanup levels:

  • Soil: arsenic, cadmium, lead, thallium, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • Groundwater: petroleum hydrocarbons, antimony, arsenic, lead, and PAHs
  • Soil Vapor: petroleum hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

We will be highlighting this comment period at our November Lower Duwamish Waterway Office Hours event at the Seattle Public Library South Park Branch on Wednesday, November 20 from 4–6 p.m. Join us to learn more!
