Chapter 173-158 WAC, Flood Plain Management

In 2024, the Legislature amended Washington law allowing improvements to certain homes in floodways to make them safer and more resistant to flooding. We are starting an expedited rulemaking to amend state floodplain management rules (Chapter 173-158 WAC, Flood Plain Management) so cities and counties can submit waivers to us to consider these improvements. Our rulemaking will help local governments and homeowners reduce or avoid flood-related damage to some dwellings located in floodways before flooding occurs.
