Public involvement

Want to get involved in Hanford cleanup efforts? On this page you can find out how to provide public comment, get involved with the Hanford Advisory Board, and learn about other involvement opportunities.

Public comments are accepted over a 30-, 45-, or 60-day period. During that time, you can share your input with us about specific changes in the permits we regulate. We review all comments and then issue a Response to Comments document, which will be posted online after the comment period has closed. Please see our publication What is a public comment period? for more information.

Before submitting your comments, you can review or download relevant documents below, or you can review them in person at any of the Hanford Information Repositories. Our publication, Tips for Effective Public Comment, has information and examples on how to write valuable comments.

Hanford Advisory Board

The Hanford Advisory Board (HAB) is a nonpartisan and broadly representative board comprised of the diverse communities, groups, and interests affected by the Hanford Site cleanup mission.

The HAB provides policy-level advice and recommendations on cleanup issues to the Tri-Party Agreement agencies — Ecology, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

All meetings listed are open to the public to attend. Information and materials from past meetings can be found on Energy’s website.

Upcoming HAB meetings

Additional HAB information

For more information including all HAB advice, agency responses, and previous meeting materials visit Energy’s website.

Other involvement opportunities

The TPA agencies offer additional opportunities to get involved or learn about Hanford cleanup. When these opportunities occur they will be listed here.

If you are interested in having our outreach and education team visit your classroom, organization, or event check out our public education page

How are we doing with public involvement?

The Tri-Party Agreement Agencies conduct an annual survey to see what the public thinks about engagement opportunities. See how we did in 2023. We will be conducting 2024's survey early next year.
