Tukwila business settles dangerous waste penalty

Company has corrected all violations

TUKWILA  –

A Tukwila aircraft parts manufacturer has paid $12,000 to the Department of Ecology under an agreement to settle an appeal of a larger environmental penalty.

Ecology fined Fatigue Technology $17,000 in February 2019 for violating hazardous waste requirements at its facility. The company did not provide records of dangerous waste, did not provide a dangerous waste training plan or employee records, and did not properly label dangerous waste.

Since an April 2019 inspection, Fatigue has cooperated with Ecology and corrected the violations.

“We appreciate these efforts to bring the facility into compliance,” said Raman Iyer, Ecology’s regional supervisor for its Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program. “This will place an ongoing focus on public and employee safety, protect the environment, and avoid further legal costs.”

Washington’s dangerous waste regulations set standards to protect the public, workers and the environment from releases of harmful waste materials at commercial and industrial facilities. Ecology inspects workplaces that generate dangerous wastes to ensure compliance with requirements such as safe handling and storage to prevent leaks, spills and fires.
