Safe drinking water action grants

These grants were previously available to local governments to provide safe drinking water to people living in areas that are or may be affected by contamination from hazardous waste sites. Ecology discontinued funds for Safe Drinking Water Action Grants (SDWAG) after the 2025-27 biennial solicitation because:

1) Ecology is required to prioritize Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) funding for ongoing cleanup sites, which already requires more funds than available.

2) The Washington Department of Health Office of Drinking Water has the authority and funding specific to address emergent and ongoing drinking water issues to protect public health.

3) SDWAG were designed for limited localized problems, not ongoing statewide issues such as Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water.
