Manchester Environmental Laboratory
Providing governmental laboratory services
Our Manchester Environmental Laboratory is Washington's primary environmental laboratory, providing scientific services to local, state, federal, and Tribal governments. We have a full staff of experienced chemists and environmental scientists providing sample analysis services for publicly funded research, ongoing environmental monitoring, and environmental emergency response. Our accredited methods and experienced chemists assure that laboratory results are accurate, credible, and defensible.
Manchester Lab is located in Port Orchard and shares a campus with the EPA's Region 10 laboratory and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The laboratory facility is shared between EPA Region 10 and the Department of Ecology.
Who we serve

Our Manchester Environmental Laboratory accepts samples from publicly funded entities such as:
- Washington state agencies
- Federal and other state agencies
- Tribal governments
- Cities and counties
- Other publicly funded agencies
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept samples from the public. If you need a laboratory that tests public samples, please visit the Lab Search database and select the option for "Labs that accept general public and commercial samples."
Our analytical capabilities
We provide accurate, credible, and defensible analyses using the latest accredited methods. These include:
- Microbiology
- Inorganic testing, including:
- General chemistry analyses
- Nutrient testing
- Metals analyses
- Organics testing, including:
- Pesticides
- PCBs
- Flame retardants
- Volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds
We can analyze a wide variety of media/matrices, including:
- Water
- Soil and sediments
- Biological tissue
- Consumer products
